I love art. I very firmly believe art and music speaks to our spirits and that the truths and beauty we find there enlarge us. That's what I saw when I found this painting by Simon Dewey a few years ago. During Christmas it hangs in my living room.

There's something about the innocence and humanity in its portrayal of Christ, it reminds me that the Savior we revere so much, especially in this season, was also very much human with humble origins and vulnerabilities. I want to protect him and keep him safe from the things I know he will face. If there is one thing I would want you, my friends, to know about me it is that, with all of my flaws and failings, I desperately love this man, my Savior. This is the spirit of Christmas that I want in my home and hopefully the beauty and love I feel when I see this painting will also touch you and help remind you of, as they say, the "reason for the season."

Merry Christmas friends.

This year we thought we'd try something new and rented a house at the Galveston beach with a group of friends. It was a little odd not being with family and they were definitely missed but we made some really good memories with some wonderful friends.

Thanks Duerdens for setting everything up and thanks to the Raes and the Marzettas for the all around good time! We played Bocce ball on the beach, went to the Strand's old fashioned ice cream shop and spent hours playing games, eating delicious food (how is it everyone cooks but me?) and having all kinds of real discussions on politics, religion, etc. With a lesser group we may not have been able to part friends but somehow we managed to pull it off and are already looking forward to the next trip.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Christensens!

Husband and I have been married for going on six years and I decided the towels we got as a wedding present were due for a replacement. I gave myself a $100 budget and said I was just going to get however many of the best towels that allowed. So off I went to BBB and got 5 of their Suite Platinum collection which are pretty much just the thickest and softest towels in the world. I got home and laid out the ground rules for Husband (not for the stanching of blood, not for the mopping of floors, not for wiping off of sinks, etc.), then washed them and have been in love ever since. Beautiful high quality things make me happy.

Which reminds me, I really need to mention that I have the best husband in the world. I'm sorta anti spending money for the most part but things for the house and pretty clothes are a weakness and Husband is such a good sport about both. He loves me to have what I want and I never get in trouble for my crazy things like spending $100 on towels. He appreciates that I am making our home cozy and am enjoying myself and I love him for it. I don't know how he understands but somehow he just gets that I need those little indulgences. Yet another reason I think he's such a sweet man and I'm such a lucky girl.

This weekend is my co-worker Jessica's birthday and since she's a big Twilight fan I made these cupcakes for the office party.

Pretty cute huh?

Happy birthday Jessica! You are truly one of my favorite people ever.
